I have FOUR Questions about DLP TV’s and Home Theater Projectors?

1. What dose 1000 Lumens mean? dose this mean 1000 hours on a lamps life?
2. Is there a differents between a DLP TV and a Home Theater Projector lasting longer then the other.
3. Which device is better to have….let me rephrase this question, which one of the products would have less technical problems?
4. When a DLP TV’s lamp life goes out isn’t the same replacement a person would have to make for a Home Theatre Projector?

1. Lumens is brightness. The higher this number for a front projector, the better/brighter the image and the farther you can throw it.
2. Is there a difference – nothing definitive, but my friends who have front projectors tend to only use them for DVD movies and have some other TV for casual watching.
3. I would suggest a rear-projector DLP set as being more ‘mature’ and therefor more reliable. The one problem with a projector is people want to make it small. This means a lot of heat in a small package and this tends to ‘cook’ things. Rear projector TV’s have been around for 20-30 years and even if the guts have changed, the larger box gives the engineers a lot of options.
4. My lamp just went out after 3 years. I found a website on how to replace it my self, but I discovered my service contract still existed so they put in a new bulb for free.
