Yes as long as you have a cable box or sat box to feed video to the projector, they work fine.

But a lot of my friends have a TV for normal TV watching and a projector for more serious movie/sports watching.

You need total light control for a projector so watching afternoon sports, shows on the weekend does not work well in a living room.

Also – a TV with a projector bulb can do .. 2,500 hours (3 years) between bulb changes. Small projectors have a bulb life about 600 – 800 – 1,200 hours. Since this is a $200-$300 replacement part – a lot of people do not want to waste the bulb on casual TV watching.
